Another remake. Mind you I don’t remember seeing the original. Still give Tim Burton a chance to express himself in a fantasy world and you get something very intersting.
Willy Wonka, played by Johnny Depp, gives the opportunity to five children to visit his factory. One of them, Charlie played by Freddie Highmore, will win the ultimate price being the factory itself.
As beautiful as Edward Scissorhands, the movie brings to a magical place. The world around the little Charlie seems surreal and that’s nothing compared to the factory. As if everything had been created by a most fertile child’s mind.
The Oompa Loompas, the factory workers, even treat us to a song for each and every naughty child. Each of the songs reflects the nature of the child it is for and has its own style. As musicals go it is very entertaining in a weird kind of way.
Of course there is a moral at the end telling us that the kid with apure and good will always prevail. It makes it closer to a fairy tale and it is as one should see it, a fairy tale.
Definitly a most see movie but not necessarely for children. What happens to some of the children in the movie might be disturbing for young children. Don’t get me wrong, it is not scary, In the end all is well. But being brought to the juicing room to be squeezed might not sound like fun to EVERYone.
